On August 6, 2020, a 39-year-old woman named Jemima Oresha tragically drowned in the world-famous Thomson Falls in Nyahururu town while taking pictures.
According to Nyahururu Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner, Patrick Muli, the body was spotted by residents downstream the river, approximately five kilometres from the falls.
Rescuers, including KWS officers, police, county emergency team, and Red Cross officials, had been combing the gorge along the River Ewaso Narok, covering over 10 kilometres in search of the body.
The terrain proved to be a significant challenge to the search team, with heavy volume and speed of unclear water in the River, coupled with huge rocks dotting the river.
However, the body was finally retrieved on Wednesday evening by villagers and rescuers.
Ms. Oresha was standing on a stone near River Ewaso Narok as her brother was taking her picture when she slipped and drowned.
She had travelled to Nyahururu from Kitale in Trans-Nzoia County to visit relatives and catch a glimpse of the famous Thomson falls tourist attraction site before returning home.
