On August 6, 2020, the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) announced a new approach to fundraising in the fight against coronavirus, with 14 counties working together to achieve targets set by the Ministry of Health.
Former Vice President Moody Awori, renowned athlete Eliud Kipchoge, and musician Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, are among the 17 prominent individuals chosen to spearhead resource mobilization efforts in the Lake region.
The team, comprising businessmen, philanthropists, industrialists, and professionals, will assist each other to address deficiencies in their health systems and respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Other notable members of the team include Sanjay Patel of Butali Sugar Company, Dr. Sylvia Ojoo, and Alie Eleveldt.
The team's inauguration is scheduled for August 14, 2020, with the official launch expected to be graced by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on August 19th.
According to LREB Chairman and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, the team will begin by analyzing the impact of Covid-19 on households and businesses in the Lake Region.
"The committee will provide relevant advice and recommendations on interventions for control and mitigation of the socio-economic impacts of the pandemic across member counties," said Mr. Oparanya.
