On August 6, 2020, the Ministry of Health in Kenya announced a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, with 538 people testing positive in the last 24 hours after 6,195 tests were conducted across the country.
According to Health CAS Dr. Rashid Aman, the new cases bring the total number of cases to 24,411 from 335,318 samples tested so far. The total recoveries now stand at 10,444, with 514 patients being discharged after full recovery.
Of the new cases, 516 are Kenyans, 22 are foreigners, and 333 are male, while 205 are female. The age range of the positive cases varies from 2 years old to 85 years old.
The distribution of cases across counties is as follows: Nairobi has 277 cases, Kiambu has 72, Kajiado has 55, Nakuru has 25, and Nyeri has 20 cases. Other counties with reported cases include Murang'a, Machakos, Busia, Mombasa, Migori, Mandera, Laikipia, Bomet, Meru, Narok, Kisii, Trans Nzoia, Tharaka Nithi, Uasin Gishu, Makueni, Wajir, Samburu, Kisumu, Kwale, Kericho, and Baringo.
Dr. Aman emphasized the importance of adhering to containment measures, including washing hands with soap and running water, maintaining social and physical distance, wearing face masks in public places, and avoiding gatherings.
