On July 27, a brazen robbery took place in Nairobi's Fuata Nyayo slums, where four boda boda riders posed as customers to steal a radio and memory card worth Sh3,300 from a hawker.
According to reports, the suspects, Edwin Muzigo Mudiri alias Mavado, Joshua Kioko Mutiso, Alphine Omari, and Simon Musa Mise alias DJ Symbol, stopped the hawker, Henry Soko Ondieki, and asked for the prices of his items before Mavado took the radio and memory card and handed it over to Mutiso.
They later went away with the items, leaving Ondieki behind. However, the police were able to trace the suspects after Ondieki reported the incident, and Mavado was found with the stolen items.
Initially, all four suspects pleaded guilty to the charges, but after a warning from the chief magistrate, Joyce Gandani, two of the suspects, Mutiso and DJ Symbol, changed their minds and denied the charges.
The four suspects were charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony, with Mavado also facing an additional charge of handling stolen property.
They were freed on a Sh300,000 bond without the option of cash bail, and the case will be mentioned on August 19 for directions.
