Garissa County Battles COVID-19 Outbreak

On August 6, 2020, Garissa County Secretary Abdi Sheikh expressed concern over the rising cases of COVID-19 in the county, which had recorded 94 cases at the time.

Speaking during the launch of a partnership between Care Emergency Response to Covid-19 and the Kenya Livestock Market System Activities in Garissa, Abdi Sheikh noted that 3 people had already succumbed to the virus, and those who tested positive were undergoing treatment at various referral centers in the county.

The county secretary highlighted the efforts being made to combat the spread of the virus, including the establishment of hand washing stations, donation of facemasks and sanitizers, and public awareness campaigns.

Abdi Sheikh also thanked stakeholders for their commitment and partnership with the county to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

As part of the efforts to combat the virus, officials from the organizations and the county team donated masks and sanitizers at the Livestock Market on the market day.
