On August 6, 2020, Citizen TV journalist Jeff Koinange revealed that he had recovered from Covid-19 after a second negative test, marking a significant milestone in his battle against the virus.
According to Koinange, he had been in self-isolation for 17 days, during which he underwent two tests. The second test results confirmed that he had beaten the virus, and he expressed gratitude to Kenyans for their support and prayers.
"Folks...Day 17 in isolation and I just got my 2nd test results...NEGATIVE...I have BEATEN this MONSTER! And YOU can too! Thank you for ALL your Prayers, Kind Words and Good Wishes! TOGETHER can win this WAR against #COVID19 God Bless! Twende Kazi," he tweeted.
Just 24 hours earlier, Koinange had received his first negative test results and was eagerly awaiting the second test to confirm his recovery. Throughout his ordeal, he remained asymptomatic and encouraged Kenyans that they too could recover from the virus.
Earlier in July, Koinange had revealed that he had tested positive for Covid-19 and was in self-isolation. He attributed his contraction of the virus to a colleague at Citizen TV who had tested positive and had named several people he had been in contact with, including Koinange.
"It probably happened in the radio station because someone at Citizen tested positive and he named several people he had been in contact with. I was among them," Koinange recalled.
Despite the challenges he faced, Koinange remained optimistic, stating that the virus is not a death sentence and that many people survive it. He went public with his status to demystify the situation and put a face to it, and since then, he has received numerous messages of encouragement from friends and colleagues.
