Usain Bolt, the Jamaican sprint legend, has spoken out about his failed attempt to become a professional footballer in Australia's A-League.
After quitting athletics in 2018, Bolt tried out with the Central Coast Mariners, hoping to fulfill a childhood dream. His quest garnered worldwide attention, particularly after he scored two goals in a pre-season friendly.
However, his abilities were questioned by some, including former Ireland striker Andy Keogh, who said Bolt had a 'touch like a trampoline'. Contract talks ultimately failed, and Bolt has now spoken about the experience.
Speaking to Australia's Channel Nine television network, Bolt said: 'I think I didn't get a fair chance.' He added: 'I didn't do it how I wanted to do it, but it's something I think I would've been good at.' Bolt also reflected on the experience, saying: 'It's just one of those things you miss out on and just have to move on.'
Despite the disappointment, Bolt has moved on and is now content with life, having become a father earlier this year. He said: 'Being a parent now, it's different. It gives you a sense of accomplishment so I'm really happy and just excited to go on this journey.'
