Haunted by the spirit of Absalom

Deputy President William Ruto's actions have drawn comparisons to the biblical figure of Absalom, known for his deceit and hidden agendas.

Netizens have taken to social media to express their discontent with Ruto's behavior, using the hashtag #ABSALOMreincarnate to highlight their concerns.

One of the key criticisms leveled against Ruto is his alleged hypocrisy. He opposed the 2010 constitution, citing its loopholes, but now retorts that the Constitution must not be changed when there are calls to fix the loopholes.

Another criticism is that Ruto is disorganizing government development agendas, with some accusing him of being more interested in personal gain than in serving the public interest.

As the Bible story of Absalom and King David illustrates, pride and greed can lead to downfall. In this case, Ruto's actions have led to a rift between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Here are some of the critical views on the hashtag #ABSALOMreincarnate:

  • √ Absalom the 3rd son of king David is today's DP Ruto √ President Uhuru Kenyatta is today's King David √ Absalom organised army to go & kill David to be the King. √ King David army defended him & defeated Absalom army, Absalom fell from his mule and died — Kitsuru Oligarch (@NytoMwangi) August 6, 2020

As one netizen noted, 'If you’re a pastor, leader, or business owner, you cannot coddle an unrepentant person who carries this Absalom spirit.'
