Published on August 6, 2020, at least 3000 women and youth groups in Machakos have received financial support from the National Government Affirmative Action to cushion them from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The initiative, under the patronage of Machakos County MP Joyce Kamene Kasimbi, targets to empower the most vulnerable in the grassroots.
The beneficiaries are groups that focus on table banking, poultry keeping, and boda boda businesses at the rural areas to earn a living.
Speaking at Kaewa during the award ceremony of the cheques, the youth and women urged the Government to increase NGAAF funding so that it benefits more people.
‘We are giving Women water tanks to ensure they access clean water. The tanks are at a subsidized price, part of which has been paid by NG-AAF’ said Kamene.
She urged the Government to consider scaling up the NGAAF allocation in order to meet numerous needs of the rural communities.
