Germs on wooden spoons are a shocking reality that many of us are unaware of. A woman's recent discovery has left her vowing to never use a wooden spoon again.

She took to Facebook to share a tip she learned from celebrity Masterchef judge Matt Preston. The tip involves soaking the wooden spoon in boiling water for around 20 minutes to reveal the hidden dirt.

She shared a picture of the offending spoon with the caption: 'Revolting really.' The water in the bowl was murky, dirty, and just downright gross.

But what made it worse was the layer of oil that had risen to the surface. A number of amateur chefs were shocked at the results, and said this is why they prefer to use silicone spatulas.

One person suggested laying the wooden utensil out in the sun, as it apparently does 'wonders for bacteria.' However, others weren't so sure, pointing out that no one had ever been sick from using their wooden spoons.

Masterchef judge Matt Preston shared the tip to Delicious magazine a while back. He explained that whilst the wooden spoon looks clean on the outside, it's most probably harbouring some gunk inside.

He suggested investing in a silicone spatula instead, as they are hygienic, heat-resistant, and flexible.

So, the next time you reach for your wooden spoon, remember that it may be harbouring some germs. It's time to consider switching to a silicone spatula for a cleaner and healthier cooking experience.
