Published on August 6, 2020, a disturbing incident in Kakamega County left a 35-year-old woman nursing serious injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman's neighbors accused her of poisoning their chicken after it died shortly after being spotted in her homestead.
The owner of the chicken mobilized her children to attack the woman, sparking a violent confrontation.
"Ndugu yangu mdogo alipata kuku hapa akaipeleka kwa jirani, vile aliipeleka huyo mama akasema mama yangu mdogo ameiwekea sumu," a witness recorded in a video.
"Akatoka na kisirani akaambia watoto wake wote wakuje na marungu ndio wakaanza kumchapa," the witness continued.
Other neighbors intervened and rushed the woman to the hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries.
The victim's husband, Harron Incheu, condemned the attack and called for action against those responsible.
"Hii iilikua ni mpango walikua nayo ya kumchapa bibi yangu na wametekeleza. Mimi sirudi nyuma hadi sheria ifanyike," he said.
