Published on August 6, 2020, Safaricom's Managed Security Services offer a suite of security solutions to safeguard emails, websites, and IT systems against hacking and data breaches.

The telco's platform provides real-time monitoring, vulnerability management, and advisory services on cybersecurity to businesses, which are increasingly seeking to protect themselves against evolving cybersecurity threats.

One of the beneficiaries of the security platform is K-Unity Sacco, a local savings and credit services micro-lender that lost an undisclosed amount of customer funds after hackers breached its banking system.

The sacco's ICT head, Francis Muoria, praised the security system for its user-focused approach and improved reporting, which has enabled the IT department to better understand and respond to security threats.

According to the Communications Authority of Kenya, 34.64 million cyber threats were detected in the three months to March, a rise of 231.5 per cent from 11.2 million threats in a similar period last year.
