On August 6, 2020, six Kenyan nurses were arrested and charged with manslaughter, criminal negligent homicide, and tampering with government records in connection to the death of an inmate at the Midland County Jail.
The charges stem from the death of Savion Hall, who died in July 2019 at a hospital in Texas. Hall was an inmate at the time of his death.
Among those charged are Lilian Okeri, 27, who was a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) at the time of the incident but has since become a Registered Nurse (RN). The others charged alongside Okeri are Adeola Adesomi, 41, Flor Estrada, 30, Timothy Forbush, 28, Kelly Robins, 52, and Esther Ihediwa, 45.
The nurses are accused of failing to maintain proper and adequate records for the victim, which allegedly led to a lack of proper medical care. They are also accused of making false entries on Hall's medical records.
The investigation into Hall's death was conducted by the Texas Rangers, who were called in to investigate the incident. The case was then presented to the Midland County District Attorney's Office, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, the state could not present the case to a Grand Jury until this summer.
