On August 6, 2020, Facebook announced the introduction of Instagram Reels, a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos on Instagram.
Available in Brazil for the past 10 months, Instagram Reels has since been rolled out in France and Germany, and was in the testing phase in India after the ban of TikTok in the country.
Reels is a video editing tool on Instagram that allows users to create fun videos to share with friends or anyone on Instagram, similar to TikTok.
With Reels, users can record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools like timer and countdown, AR effects, or let align previous clips.
Reels offers users new ways to express themselves, discover more of what they love on Instagram, and help aspiring creators take centre stage.
Users can share Reels with followers in Feed and make them available to the wider Instagram community through a new space in Explore.
“Reels can be recorded in a series of clips (one at a time), all at once, or using video uploads from your gallery. Record the first clip by pressing and holding the capture button. You’ll see a progress indicator at the top of the screen as you record. Stop recording to end each clip.”
One good thing about Instagram Reels is that it still follows users’ privacy settings, allowing them to share Reels with only their followers or the wider Instagram community.
