On August 5, 2020, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and Amnesty International Kenya (AIK) launched the 'Wapi Nduru' initiative at the CPA Centre in Nairobi, marking a significant step towards empowering accountants to expose corruption.

The project, financed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aims to train at least 10% of ICPAK members on the impact of corruption on social and economic rights over a six-month period.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, there were over 8,000 corruption cases and 3,331 human rights violations in 2019.

ICPAK Chief Executive Edwin Makori emphasized the crucial role accountants play in both perpetuating and combating corruption, stating, 'Whether school bursars, financial clerks, tax accountants, chief finance officers or auditors, accountants are always at the epicentres of corruption.'

The 'Wapi Nduru' project seeks to build conscious leadership capacities within the accountancy profession, encouraging accountants to recognize their responsibility in preventing human rights violations.
