On August 6, 2020, Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku and County Assembly Speaker Johnson Osoi launched the issuance of new generation land documents in a bid to combat land fraud in the region.

The new allotment letters, which have eight security features, are aimed at preventing double allocation of plots in Kajiado. Over 12,000 plot owners have acquired the new and authenticated documents in the second phase of cleaning up the land sector.

Speaking during the launch, Governor Lenku emphasized the importance of the new documents, saying they would enable landowners to use their prime plots for economic activities. He added that several banks in the county had accepted the security standards of the new land documents and were willing to incorporate them in offering loans and other credit services to owners.

"We are determined to give our investors documents that can allow development to happen," said Governor Lenku. He also vowed to clean up the land sector, which has been marred by unscrupulous cartels.

Mr. Osoi, the County Assembly Speaker, expressed support for the reforms being undertaken by the land department, saying all MCAs were behind the ongoing transformation of the sector.

The Lands Executive, Hamilton Parseina, revealed that his department had a functional Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee that was composed of county officials, the National Land Commission, and the Judiciary. He said the committee had been resolving land issues to reduce the agony of long court processes.
