On Monday evening, a Kenyan military helicopter crash-landed at the Dhobley airstrip in southern Somalia, injuring ten of its troops.
According to Zipporah Kioko, Kenya Defense Forces spokesperson, the helicopter was on routine duties when it crashed.
"All the ten military personnel on board the aircraft are at the Defense Forces Memorial Hospital in Nairobi in stable condition," Kioko said in a statement issued from Nairobi on Tuesday.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway, with a team in Dhobley to establish the facts.
Some of the injured soldiers were transferred to Nairobi, while others were moved to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) hospital in Mogadishu.
The helicopter was on a return trip after delivering supplies to soldiers based in the Lower Juba region near the Kenyan border.
Approximately 4,000 Kenyan soldiers are serving under AMISOM, responsible for sector 2 comprising Lower and Middle Juba.
This incident is the third this year, following a civilian plane crash on July 14 and a Kenyan plane mistakenly shot down by Ethiopian troops on May 4.
