Published on August 5, 2020, a report emerged of a Covid-19 outbreak in a Migori family, with 48 members allegedly testing positive for the virus.
However, health officials in Migori have since denied these reports, stating that only seven members of the family have tested positive for Covid-19.
According to Migori Health executive Isca Oluoch, the 48 samples collected were primary and secondary contacts of one case, and out of these, 14 turned positive, with only seven being from one family.
Speaking to the Nation, Dr. Oluoch clarified that the reports of a Covid-19 outbreak in the family were misleading and intended to cause unnecessary panic among locals.
Tragedy struck the family when Moses Osoro, a senior government official in the Ministry of Devolution, succumbed to the virus and was laid to rest in Suna East on Wednesday.
Following his death, his brother Gordon Ogolla, a lawyer based in Nakuru and a former Migori County Assembly Speaker, took to social media to share his family's ordeal, stating that his entire family had contracted the virus from one of his elder brothers.
However, Mr. Ogolla later clarified that his initial message was blown out of proportion and was intended to sensitise the public on the gravity of the pandemic.
