The Lake Region Economic Bloc has rolled out new strategies to combat the spread of Covid-19 in its 14 member counties. The bloc has established a 17-member Covid-19 resource mobilization and advisory committee, which includes celebrities and investors in the region.

Among the members appointed by the bloc are celebrated musician Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, and prominent businessmen. The committee will play an integral role in helping mobilize resources to steer the counties in economic recovery.

According to the bloc, there is an urgent need to shift focus on economic recovery even as they continue to battle soaring Covid-19 cases. By July 29, the region had recorded about 1255 positive cases of the virus.

Members of the committee will be officially inaugurated on August 14 to begin their journey in helping the bloc handle Covid-19. Their main duties will include establishing the level of socio-economic impact of the pandemic on households in the region and proposing mechanisms for effective linkages and inter-county sharing of resources.

The bloc is optimistic that it will be able to caution its members against the adverse effects of the pandemic. The committee's activities will also include promoting local production of medical supplies in the region.
