Published on August 5, 2020, the Health Ministry confirmed a worrying outbreak of COVID-19 in Migori, where 48 members of the same family have tested positive for the virus.
The family's infection is attributed to one of its members who traveled from Nairobi to upcountry, sparking a chain reaction that has spread across three generations of the extended family.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the news during the daily COVID-19 briefing, where he also confirmed 671 new COVID-19 cases in the country.
Of the new cases, 633 were Kenyans, while 33 were foreigners. Nairobi continues to lead with the highest number of new cases (376), followed by Kiambu (112), Machakos (20), Kisumu (16), and Mombasa (6).
Meanwhile, 603 patients have recovered from the virus, bringing Kenya's total recoveries to 9,930. The CS noted that 436 patients were under home-based care, while 167 were discharged from various hospitals.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 fatalities in the country have reached 391 after three more patients died overnight, according to Mr. Kagwe.
