Kenya's Health Ministry has confirmed a shocking Covid-19 outbreak within a single family in Migori, western Kenya.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the disease has spread across three generations of an extended family, affecting at least 48 members.
Mr. Kagwe made the announcement during the daily Covid-19 briefing on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, as the country reported 671 new cases.
The new cases bring the national tally to 23,873 confirmed cases, with Nairobi leading the way with 376 new cases, followed by Kiambu, Machakos, Kisumu, and Mombasa.
Meanwhile, 603 patients have recovered from the virus, with 436 receiving home-based care and 167 discharged from hospitals.
Unfortunately, Covid-19 fatalities in the country reached 391 after three more patients died overnight, Mr. Kagwe said.
Health Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth also revealed that 10 healthcare workers have succumbed to the virus, with 723 cases reported among medical staff as of Wednesday.
