Published on August 6, 2020, Geoffrey Kamworor, the world half marathon record holder, is making a remarkable recovery after a freak motorbike accident in June left him with head and ankle injuries.
On a morning run, Kamworor was hit by a speeding motorbike, forcing him to seek treatment at St. Luke's Hospital in Eldoret, where he underwent minor surgery under the care of Athletics Kenya-accredited doctor Victor Bargoria.
"I am really glad that I am recovering well now after that accident and everything looks fine," Kamworor told Capital Sport.
As he continues his rehabilitation, Kamworor has started his rehab training, focusing on gym work and indoor cycling to improve his endurance. He remains hopeful of getting back on the road soon and taking his training to the next level.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused stoppages to various sporting activities, Kamworor remains optimistic about competing in a competitive race by the end of the year. His ultimate goal is to be 100% fit for the Olympics in Tokyo, a dream he has been working towards.
"I hope that I can have maybe one race to try and gauge myself, but at the moment, it is not a priority. My target is to get very fit because the aim is to be 100pc fit for the Olympics," Kamworor noted.
