On November 7, 2019, a court case began between Golden Africa Kenya and Dire Dawa wholesalers over a debt of USD 444,285.44 (Sh47,982,827.52) for goods supplied in 2018.
Golden Africa Kenya supplied vegetable oil to Dire Dawa wholesalers on credit between June and September 2018. However, the distributor failed to pay the amount since August 24, 2019.
Despite a Debt Settlement Agreement dated September 23, 2019, which required the distributor to pay the amount within 60 days, Dire Dawa wholesalers failed to honour the agreement.
On July 21, 2020, a director of the defendant, Adul Rashid Sharifow, filed a Notice of Motion seeking to be joined as an interested party. However, the application was dismissed as an abuse of the court process.
On August 5, 2020, Justice David Majanja ruled in favour of Golden Africa Kenya, ordering Dire Dawa wholesalers to pay the debt with interest from the date of filing suit.
