Published on August 5, 2020, Arsenal have made a significant move in the transfer market by offering Brazilian forward Willian a three-year contract.

The Gunners' offer is seen as a major advantage in their bid to secure Willian's signature, with the 31-year-old reportedly attracted to the opportunity to work with fellow Brazilian Edu and join Mikel Arteta's rejuvenated side.

However, Chelsea, who have been keen to retain Willian's services, have refused to match Arsenal's offer, instead proposing a two-year extension to his current contract.

Frank Lampard has acknowledged that Chelsea need to improve their defensive capabilities, but has also stated that the club would need to sell before they can buy, given their significant spending in the attacking areas this summer.

Willian, who made 47 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions last season, finished the season strongly with four Premier League goals after the restart.

According to reports, Willian is seeking a 'big final contract' that would take him to the age of 35, ideally a three-year deal.

Chelsea's willingness to listen to offers for up to 10 first-team players, including goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and centre-back trio Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, and Andreas Christiansen, has raised hopes that Willian may be available for transfer.
