Two weeks have passed since 39-year-old Jemima Oresha drowned while taking pictures at the famous Thomson Falls in Nyahururu town, and her family is still searching for her body.

Ms. Oresha, a mother of three, was visiting relatives in Nyahururu when she slipped and fell into the River Ewaso Narok, which is located at the bottom of the falls.

A team of KWS officers, police, county emergency team, and Red Cross officials have been combing the gorge along the river, covering over 10 kilometers in search of the body.

However, the family's hopes are dwindling, and they are now appealing to volunteer divers and well-wishers to help find the body.

Ms. Oresha's family, who are from Kitale in Trans Nzoia County, have been camping in Nyahururu town since the incident, and they are facing the additional challenge of mourning under the social distance protocol due to Covid-19.

Nyahururu sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Muli said that the heavy volume of unclear water in the river and the presence of huge rocks have been posing a challenge in the search exercise.

He added that they have spoken to farmers and people living downstream to help and be on the lookout for the body.
