Kenya Records 671 New Covid-19 Cases, Total Deaths Rise to 391 ¶
On August 5, 2020, Kenya recorded 671 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 23,873. This was announced by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe during the daily Covid-19 briefing at the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital.
Of the 671 cases, 413 were male and 258 were female, with the youngest case being 3 years old and the oldest being 94 years old. The cases were reported in various counties, with Nairobi leading with 376 cases, followed by Kiambu with 112 cases, Machakos with 20 cases, and Kisumu with 16 cases.
At the same time, 603 patients were discharged from hospital, bringing the total recoveries to 9,930. This includes 436 patients who were on the home-based care system and 167 patients who were discharged from hospitals.
Regrettably, 3 patients succumbed to the disease, taking the total death toll to 391. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe also noted that two more healthcare workers had succumbed to the disease, bringing the total to 10. He urged counties to listen to the concerns of healthcare workers and address them promptly.
CS Kagwe also praised Kenyans for observing the Covid-19 directives, noting that most Kenyans had encountered colleagues or family members who had undergone isolation due to the virus. He also noted that the Kenya University hospital would receive 500 additional beds, including 60 HDU and ICU beds, to increase the total number of beds in the institution to 1,150.
