On August 5, 2020, a disturbing incident unfolded in Kakamega County, where a 35-year-old woman was brutally beaten by her neighbours.

The alleged reason behind the assault was that the woman had poisoned their chicken, which had died shortly after being spotted in her homestead.

According to eyewitness Mary Khavetsa, the owner of the chicken mobilised her children to attack the woman, accusing her of poisoning the bird.

"My younger brother had taken the chicken to the neighbour's house, and when the neighbour saw the chicken, she said my brother's mother had poisoned it. She then went and told her children to come and attack the woman," Khavetsa recounted.

Other neighbours were forced to intervene and rush the woman to hospital, after which the matter was reported to the area chief.

The victim denied any wrongdoing, with her husband, Harron Incheu, calling for action against those who assaulted his wife.

"This was a premeditated plan to assault my wife, and they carried it out. I will not rest until the law takes its course," Incheu said.
