Published on August 5, 2020, Samburu County has become the latest addition to the list of counties in Kenya with confirmed Covid-19 cases.
Just days after Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal denied reports of the county's first case, Health Executive Stephen Lekupe confirmed that eight people have tested positive for the virus in Maralal town.
The affected individuals have been moved to isolation centers, while others are undergoing home-based care.
According to Mr. Lekupe, the new cases were detected among 145 people who were recently tested, with six males and two females among the positive cases.
The youngest person to test positive is 29 years old, while the oldest is 52.
Mr. Lekupe noted that the positive cases include drivers, conductors, a business person, and a waitress.
He emphasized the importance of wearing face masks in public spaces, citing that many locals are still not adhering to this guideline.
"We must now wear masks and follow all Ministry of Health guidelines. The virus is in our midst," Mr. Lekupe said.
