Published on August 5, 2020, Safaricom has announced the extension of its free data bundles to frontline healthcare workers, a gesture that began in April 2020.

As the country gradually returns to normalcy, the telecommunications company has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the healthcare sector by extending the initiative for an additional three months.

The initiative, which was initially set to last for three months, has seen frontline healthcare workers receive a monthly bundle consisting of 12GB data, 600 minutes, and 2,000 SMSs.

According to Safaricom, the extension will see an equivalent of 195 Terabytes of data, 10 million voice call minutes, and 33 million SMSs allocated to 5,529 frontline health workers as identified by the Ministry of Health.

Joining Safaricom in extending the gesture of goodwill to the frontline healthcare workers is Samsung Electronics East Africa, which has donated 500 Samsung Galaxy A2 Core smartphones worth Kshs 3.8 million.

The smartphones are aimed at improving communication and aiding the movement of testing and care teams.
