Published on August 5, 2020, the Senate's seventh adjournment marks a significant setback in the revenue sharing debate among counties.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki made a last-ditch appeal for the Senate to adjourn and give dialogue another chance. They argued that the formula was divisive and skewed to disenfranchise marginalized counties.

However, Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang'ata and other senators opposed the motion, citing concerns that the formula was fair and equitable.

During the vote, 34 senators voted in favor of the adjournment motion, while 26 voted against. Busia Senator Amos Wako abstained from the vote.

At least 19 counties would have lost billions of shillings in budgetary allocations under the proposed formula, with Mandera county set to lose Sh2 billion.
