Kenya's Ministry of Health has sounded the alarm over the reuse of masks, citing the risk of spreading COVID-19.
Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman warned that the reuse of masks poses a significant risk to public health, particularly in crowded areas such as markets, bus stations, and along roads.
“We must take precautions when disposing of masks to prevent contamination and risk to our lives,” Dr. Aman said.
He also emphasized the importance of proper disposal of used masks, saying that the reuse of masks is a serious health risk.
Dr. Aman noted that research has shown that COVID-19 virus particles can remain on used masks, posing a risk to those who come into contact with them.
He also warned that children are particularly vulnerable to the virus, as they are often unable to maintain social distancing.
“We must take responsibility for disposing of masks properly and not reuse them, as this can lead to the spread of the virus,” Dr. Aman said.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Health is working closely with county governments to develop strategies for proper mask disposal and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
