Comedian Zeddy Zainabu has spoken out about the traumatic experience she endured after delivering a stillborn child at Pumwani Hospital in 2020.
According to Zeddy, she was referred to Kiambu Hospital, but upon arrival, she was told to go to Pumwani Hospital, where she was given a leso to lie down due to a lack of beds.
When Zeddy was taken to the delivery room, she was not prepared for the horror that awaited her. The doctor took the baby and put it in a box, then used his foot to push it towards the nurse, asking Zeddy if she wanted to take the baby home.
When Zeddy asked a nurse what had happened to her baby, she was met with rudeness and told that she was the one who had carried the baby for nine months and should know what had happened to it.
After being taken back to the ward to recover, Zeddy said that other mothers started treating her with suspicion, watching her with suspicion and not leaving their babies with her.
Her family would visit her, but when she went home, reality set in, and people would ask her what gender the baby was, without knowing that the baby had died.
On what her lowest moment was, Zeddy narrated that she stayed in the house for months, and a drunk friend of hers would knock and demand that she open the door, asking her if she was going to kill herself because her child died.
Fortunately, Zeddy is now a proud mother of three, and she has spoken out about her traumatic experience in the hopes of raising awareness and support for mothers who have gone through similar experiences.
