On August 4, 2020, the White House announced plans to take action against popular short-video app TikTok and other Chinese apps in the coming days.

According to White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany, the move is a response to national security risks posed by these apps.

“He and Secretary (of State) Pompeo have said the U.S. will take action in coming days on Chinese apps including TikTok due to the national security risk,” McEnany said in a briefing.
