ODM Suspends Official After Kisumu Public Service Board Attack ¶
On August 4, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) suspended Kennedy Ajwang', the Deputy Chairman of the Kisumu County ODM branch, after he led youths in an attack on the Kisumu Public Service Board offices in Milimani on August 3.
According to a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, ODM confirmed that Ajwang' was suspended to allow investigations to be conducted.
"It is regrettable and unfortunate that the lead Member is the Deputy Chairman both at the Constituency and County Officers but at no time did we resolve to attack the Board Members," the statement read in part.
ODM also distanced itself from allegations that the party was involved in the planned attack on the board offices in Milimani, Kisumu.
After leading the attack on the County Public Service Board offices, Ajwang' was descended upon by youths in a retaliatory attack and was rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital.
Among those injured in the Monday attack were the county board's Chairman Charles Babu Karan, Prof Edward Joash Kochung, and other employees whom the youths found within the premises.
ODM also suspended its members who attended the meeting where the planned attack on the Public Service Board offices was hatched.
"We have resolved that any office bearers of all the ODM Party Organs i.e Orange Young Democrat, Women Democrat, and the Mainstream who attended the meeting cease to be both Members and Officials of the ODM Party as stipulated in our ODM Party Constitution forthwith," the statement read.
ODM thanked Governor Nyong'o for offering ODM members and officials an opportunity in the just-concluded Enforcement Officers and Revenue Collectors recruitment.
