On August 4, 2020, football clubs in Germany's top two divisions reached an agreement on plans to allow fans to return to stadiums from mid-September, amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The German Football League (DFL) drew up the plans for the new season, which is set to start on September 18. However, fans will only be allowed to sit, and alcohol will be banned at matches until October.

Additionally, there will be no away fans until the end of the year, as part of the agreed plans.
