Published on August 4, 2020, Kenya's COVID-19 cases have surged to 23,202 after 605 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
The Ministry of Health tested 4,547 samples, bringing the total number of samples tested to 322,923.
Of the 605 new cases, 401 are male and 204 are female, with 24 registered as foreign nationals, according to Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman.
Unfortunately, six patients have died due to COVID-19 complications, increasing the number of fatalities to 388.
587 patients have been discharged, with 500 from the Ministry's home-based care programme and 87 from various health facilities.
The country's total number of recoveries stands at 9,327.
The cases are distributed across various counties, with Nairobi recording the highest number of cases at 373, followed by Kiambu with 35 cases.
Meanwhile, CAS Rashid Aman has urged Kenyans to be mindful of protecting the environment by disposing of face masks properly.
"We have advocated for the use of masks. We have noticed this measure is largely being flouted more so in markets," he said.
"Need to take extra precaution when it comes to disposal of masks. The need to consider environmental issues while disposing of masks," he added.
