Reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez will miss his second straight race after undergoing a second operation on his fractured right arm, his team announced on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

According to Repsol Honda, Marquez and his team decided that he would not participate in the Czech Republic's MotoGP to allow for further recovery.

Marquez underwent a second surgery on Monday, August 3, in Barcelona on the arm he broke in the season opener in Spain on July 19.

Initially, Marquez was declared fit to participate in the following race in Jerez just 48 hours after having a titanium plate inserted, but he ultimately missed the event.

He will be replaced this weekend by German test rider Stefan Bradl, who has made 95 career starts in the premier class.

Doctor Xavier Mir explained that the first operation was successful, but the titanium plate was insufficient, leading to an accumulation of stress in the operated area, which caused the plate to suffer damage.

Marquez has not felt pain during this period and has followed medical advice, but unfortunately, an over-stress has caused this issue.

Marquez has yet to register a point this season and trails championship leader Fabio Quartararo by 50 points after the young French rider secured back-to-back victories at the Jerez circuit.
