Kenyan Innovator Builds Car from Two Motorbikes

On a remarkable journey of innovation and perseverance, Sospeter Chiguzo from Kinango, Kwale County, has managed to overcome all odds to create a car from two motorbikes.

Published on August 4, 2020, the innovative project has garnered attention and praise from residents and local leaders, who have encouraged youths to enroll in Technical Vocational Education and Training Institutions (TIVET) institutions.

Chiguzo's journey began when he dropped out of school in form two due to financial constraints. However, he did not let this setback deter him from pursuing his dreams. He started out small, repairing bicycles in the area, but soon graduated to repairing motorbikes due to high demand from bodaboda operators.

"When I was a bicycle mechanic, there were no motorbikes in the area but the people started buying them slowly. When they broke down, people asked me to repair them because their mechanisms are almost similar," Chiguzo explained.

He applied his knowledge of motorbikes to create a car, splitting two motorbikes in the middle and mounting the front end of one bike to the car bonnet and the back to the boot. He then placed the two bikes side by side to create a car structure.

Chiguzo has spent Ksh 220,000 on the project so far, but costs are expected to rise once he completes building his prototype. He has urged the government to help him with the project, noting that it would create employment for jobless youth in the village.

Residents of Kinango have expressed hope that one day the car will be mass-produced and registered under Chiguzo's name, bringing pride to the whole village.
