On August 1, 2020, Juventus won the Serie A title, with Cristiano Ronaldo celebrating with the trophy.
However, Ronaldo's success story is not unique to him. His older brother, Hugo Aveiro, was also a skilled footballer when they were young.
Described as a talented 'street player', Hugo's childhood friend Joel Santos revealed that he was a better footballer than Ronaldo.
Despite his talent, Hugo struggled with issues around alcohol and drugs, a path that their father, Jose Dinis Aveiro, also took before passing away in 2005 from liver failure.
Tragically, Ronaldo's determination to never follow the same path was motivated by his family's struggles with addiction.
His mother, Dolores, said, "Cristiano has seen what drink and drugs can do to people close to him and it's part of the reason why he's become who he is today."
After the Champions League final in 2014, Ronaldo begged his brother to get help, and the two made a heartbreaking pact.
CR7 told Hugo that he had fulfilled his part of the bargain, lifting the Champions League trophy, but now his brother had to quit drinking to complete his part of the pact.
