On August 4, 2020, the Kilifi township embarked on a beautification project, marking a significant effort to revamp the town's appearance. The initiative, spearheaded by the Kilifi North Deputy County Commissioner, Josphat Mutisya, involves the planting of flower plants and trees along roads leading to government offices, public beaches, and parks.

The project kicked off at the entry point of the town, Kilifi Bridge, where flower plants were planted 3 meters from the roads leading to the offices of the governor and Huduma Centre at the county commissioner's offices.

Additionally, flower plants are to be planted from the county commissioner's office along Bofa road to Mazingira park and Kilifi public beach beside the park. This initiative follows the completion of bush clearing around government office premises, cleaning of drainages, and opening of paths leading to public beaches and parks in the Sokoni ward informal settlement.

According to Mutisya, the youth involved in the project have been actively engaged in various activities within the town, and it was time to give the town a facelift. He emphasized that the phase 2 Presidential project aimed at cushioning those recruited youths against the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic by making them earn an income for the period of six months.

"Our beneficiaries have made commendable work in their assigned areas and much more needs to be done. This exercise will definitely change the face of Kilifi and make it more attractive to visitors henceforth," Mutisya said.

The programme will also see the planting of additional trees along the streets within the town, where the ageing ones planted during the colonial days have been falling off in the recent past due to strong winds.

It's worth noting that the sub-county was privileged to have recruited 1300 youth through the ongoing Kazi Mtaani phase 2 programme. The programme is closely being monitored by assistant and DCC under the supervision of the County Director for Housing, Daudi Makosi.
