Kenyan Nurse Charged in US Jail Death ¶
On July 19, 2019, Savion Hall, an inmate at Midland County Detention Center in Texas, was pronounced dead at a hospital in Lubbock.
A report by CBS7 on August 1, 2020, indicated that Lilian Okeri, a Kenyan nurse, was accused of allegedly tampering with American government records.
According to the report, Okeri and five others, including Adeola Adesomi, Flora Estrada, Timothy Forbush, and Kelly Robins, were charged with manslaughter and Criminally Negligent Homicide.
The nurses were accused of causing Hall's death after they failed to keep proper medical records, which would have advised for proper medication to be administered to him.
As reported by CBS7, the nurses made false entries into the reports, and the District Attorney Laura Nodolf noted that the six nurses were not employed by Midland County but were contracted.
It is worth noting that Okeri was an LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) at the time of Hall's death but changed ranks and is now classified as a Registered Nurse (RN).
On a separate note, another Kenyan woman, Rachel Michuki, was arrested in 2019 for trying to bribe police officers who had detained her for driving under the influence of alcohol.
