On August 20, bidders are expected to submit their proposals for the modernisation of Nairobi Railway Station, marking a significant step towards transforming the area into a vibrant city hub.

The project, which covers a total area of 425 acres, aims to create an iconic nerve centre for Nairobi's multimodal transport system, incorporating a new central station, mixed-use commercial developments, housing, and intermodal facilities.

According to the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, the project will be the largest and most ambitious development undertaken in the Nairobi metropolitan region since independence.

As part of the project, a cultural centre, a knowledge industry in partnership with the Technical University of Kenya, a hotel, convention centre, top-tier office and working zone, a new commercial community centre, and a high-tech industry with a Small and Medium Enterprise cluster are planned.

The Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS), established on March 18, has been credited with transforming various aspects of the city, including waste management. In an interview, Major Badi, the General of NMS, highlighted the progress made in waste management, stating that the daily collection of garbage has increased from 1000 tonnes to over 2500 tonnes.
