On August 4, 2020, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo issued a stark warning to Kenyan leaders embezzling COVID-19 funds, stating that those who loot the money are cursed and will die.

The warning comes after a Nation publication revealed that traders had made away with billions of shillings from the COVID-19 war chest.

According to the Daily Nation, the government received Ksh 223B from international players within 60 days, with the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) being the biggest recipient.

However, the country's biggest tenderpreneurs, including President Uhuru Kenyatta's close kin, allegedly camped at Kemsa offices to receive a share of the funds and made away with billions through fraudulent tenders.

As seen in a viral video, Kabogo claimed, 'On May 1st, 2020, I said “Mnakula pesa ya covid-19 mmerogwa”' (You are eating COVID-19 money and will be cursed).
