From Tanzania to Hollywood: Calvin Mwita's Journey to Stardom ¶
Calvin Mwita, a 30-year-old actor from Tanzania, has made a name for himself in the Australian movie industry, including a role in the Netflix series 'Stateless'. In an exclusive interview with Nyakundi Report, Calvin shares his inspiring story of overcoming challenges to land his big break.
Despite pursuing a degree in Accounting and Finance in Mzumbe University, Tanzania, Calvin's passion for acting has always been his driving force. Born and raised in Tarime on the Kenya-Tanzania border, he recently made his debut in the Australian movie industry, playing a detainee in an Australian Immigration detention centre in the Netflix series 'Stateless'.
Calvin's journey to stardom was not without its challenges. He faced numerous rejections and setbacks before landing his first role in 'Stateless' in 2020. However, he remained determined and continued to audition for roles, eventually winning a scholarship to study a Master's Degree at Torrens University in Australia in 2018.
According to Calvin, playing Taifa Duale in the TV drama series was a game-changer for his acting career. Speaking in his native Swahili language, Swahili, helped him to relax on set and gave him more confidence in his role. Calvin's experience playing Taifa Duale also changed his mindset when it comes to immigration, making him see things beyond the perspectives of a screen actor.
Calvin's message is one of hope and resilience, encouraging others to pursue their dreams despite the challenges they may face. As he says, 'Racism is everywhere in the world today, but I believe people are people whether you are black or yellow, blue or white; we are all people and we are all the same.'
