On August 1, 2020, Planhotel Malindi resort, part of the hotel trio – Diamonds Dream of Africa, Sandies Malindi Dream Garden, and Sandies Tropical Village – welcomed back domestic and international guests after a Coronavirus-induced hiatus.

According to Planhotel Hospitality Group General Manager Alexander Zissimatos, the resort achieved an occupancy rate of 60% over the weekend, with hopes that this trend will continue until the end of the year.

As a member of the Small Luxury Hotel of the World (SLH), Diamonds Dream of Africa has adopted the Stay Safe. Stay Small initiative, which provides enhanced health and safety guidelines for all 520 member hotels in 90 countries.

Planhotel Malindi has taken significant steps to ensure the highest safety standards, including partnering with the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) to pursue the GBAC STAR accreditation for its hotels.

GBAC STAR accreditation provides third-party validation, ensuring that the resort has proper cleaning protocols, disinfection techniques, and work practices in place to minimize risks associated with infectious agents and biohazards.

Additionally, Planhotel Malindi has implemented a 24-hours vacated room turnaround program, where no staff will enter a room for 24 hours after the last guest has stayed.

“After the last guest has stayed, no one, including our staff will enter the room for 24 hours”, Alexander Zissimatos said.

“Further, our food and beverage set up will ensure social distancing between tables. We look forward to welcoming back our guests and assure them of a safe holiday”, he concluded.
