August 3, 2020, marked a dark time for many Kenyans as President Uhuru Kenyatta shut down the country to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, a select few, including well-connected individuals, were making billions of shillings during this period.

One such individual is 30-year-old Ivy Minyow Onyango, who has become an instant billionaire thanks to COVID-19.

According to investigations, Ivy registered a company called Kiliq Limited at the Registrar of Companies in January this year, just as the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning to spread.

Just a few weeks later, her company was single-sourced and handed a Ksh 4 billion tender to supply 450,000 pieces of Protective Personal Equipment (PPEs) to KEMSA.

Each complete PPE kit includes an N95 mask, a bodysuit, goggles, waterproof shoe covers, and gloves.

However, the National Assembly revealed that the tender was inflated, with each PPE procured at Ksh 9,000, which is double the market price of Ksh 4,500.

Further investigations have revealed that a powerful Jubilee politician is behind Kiliq Ltd, and is believed to have secured the deal for a handsome fee.
