On August 3, 2020, Kenya's immigration services office advised tourists planning to visit the country to apply for visas online, citing the COVID-19 pandemic as a reason for the recommendation.
According to director-general for Immigration services Alexander Muteshi, 'Online Visa application is highly encouraged, especially at this period of COVID-19 Pandemic.'
Foreign nationals can access various services, including foreigner certificates and online work permits, through the Immigration department’s website.
Kenya recently released an initial list of source countries that can fly to the country, given their limited Covid19 community transmission. Flights from the UK, France, Netherlands, Qatar, Italy, UAE, South Korea, China, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Rwanda, Namibia, Morocco, Uganda, and Ethiopia are now allowed to fly in the country.
Transport CS James Macharia emphasized that passengers landing in the country must show a PCR-based COVID-19 negative certificate and show no symptoms of COVID-19. He also urged passengers flying out of the country to comply with the COVID-19 related travel health requirements of their destination countries.
