Kenyan Nurse Succumbs to Covid-19

On August 3, 2020, Kenya lost another healthcare worker to Covid-19 complications. Marian Awuor Adumbo, a nurse at Rachuonyo Sub County Hospital, passed away after being admitted to several hospitals in the country.

Adumbo had initially been admitted to Homabay County Hospital with flu-like symptoms during her pregnancy. She tested negative for Covid-19 at the time, but her condition worsened, and she was transferred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for further treatment.

At Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, Adumbo underwent another Covid-19 test, which came back positive. Despite receiving high dependency care, including oxygen augmentation, her condition continued to deteriorate.

Tragically, Adumbo gave birth to a baby boy while still undergoing treatment. The baby is now left without a mother, just over a week old.

Adumbo's death is the latest in a series of fatalities in Kenya, including Ken Ouko, a sociology professor at the University of Nairobi, and Adisa Lugaliki, the country's first doctor to succumb to Covid-19. Thespian Charles Bukeko, also known as Papa Shirandula, was another notable victim of the pandemic.
