Edgar Obare, a popular video blogger, has been charged in a Kiambu court for allegedly publishing private details from a local YouTuber's passport.

According to the charge sheet, Obare used his social media accounts to disclose Natalie Wanjiru Githinji's personal data without her consent.

Obare, who runs a popular Instagram page, denied the allegations and was released on Sh100,000 cash bail awaiting his trial.

The prosecution alleges that Obare committed the offence on diverse dates between July 9 and July 13 at an unknown place in Kenya.

Obare was arrested in Kisumu last week and transferred to the DCI headquarters for further probe. His lawyer, Titus Munene, urged the court to release him on lenient bond terms.

The Kiambu Resident Magistrate, Rita Oraro, directed Obare to refrain from publishing details related to the case on his blog or in mainstream media.

Obare has been on the radar of detectives for some time and has been involved in several high-profile controversies.
