On August 3, 2020, blogger Edgar Obare was released on a Kshs 100,000 bail.

He was charged at Kiambu law court for allegedly disclosing personal data without consent, contrary to section 72 (3) (b) as read with section 73 of the Data Protection Act No. 24 of 2019.

According to the charge sheet, Edgar Obare is accused of unlawfully disclosing personal data of a visa belonging to Natalie Wanjiru Githinji, a social media influencer, to his online followers without her consent.

The alleged offense is said to have taken place between July 9 and 13, 2020, at an unknown location in Kenya.

The case has been adjourned, and details of the bail conditions will be made available as more information becomes available.
